This goes without saying, but kombucha you buy from Booch Buddies, or from a grocery store, is ready to drink at the time of purchase. Going further, we should first discuss glassware and if this is something you should consider having over ice. I personally believe that most things in life are best enjoyed with some level of intention behind it. So as in the case of wine, cocktails, beer, spirits, we might already understand that they are best served in wine glasses, up or down, a large glass in the shape of a boot, or Glencairn glasses respectively. Now, you may already be gearing up for me to say that you should be purchasing my special "cute glass" that so happens to be already up on my website ready to be purchased by the masses- Only if you want to!
The best booch glass, in my frivolous opinion, is a wine glass, or if in small portions, a brandy snifter. I find that both of these have a stem as well as allow more of the aromatic components to be available for our respective schnozes to inhale and more fully experience our booch. While I would also drink right from the bottle, I believe there is a time and place to make these sorts of decisions. Now that I have spoken my truth in the form of preferred glassware, I think it's time to tackle the issue of, what are you doing with the aged, bubbly tea juice, and when is it appropriate to enjoy it.
Literally any time is the right time to enjoy some kombucha! Of course, if you are on the lake, I might pour some up in a tumbler with ice and a squeeze of citrus, especially if you are on a fun boat party. Though a can of booch split with your beer of choice might be a better idea if you find yourself on a bass boat without any nibbles- Hold out on our thorough research into which beers go best to mix with your booch. A dinner party with friends may be the right time to bust out those "good glasses" that you hide away from roommates, or significant others. When it comes to elevating the experience, I have never seen something in a stem that didn't look WAY more elegant; don't try to change this opinion! Serving kombucha as a wine alternative has become more common through the understanding that fermented beverages all have a similar beginning: sweet liquid, or juice, rots until it tastes good, or makes you feel good. Remember to look at how things are made to understand better how and why you see so much more kombucha in cool Wine and Cocktail bars, like Golden Age Wine and Adios cocktail bar. Hard not to shout out both of these concepts in Birmingham, as both of these places have found that kombucha is a stellar substitute for wine or cocktails. The things driving the experience in both wine and cocktails are the balance of flavors that create an enjoyable sip, as you may find in your booch of choice. Drinking kombucha can be as special as a fine wine, or as normal as crushing a nice fizzy cola before a movie. It is fun to make a big deal of things, but it is equally important that we mention that this is a product that by Lipton's standard would be trash. With that clarity in mind, I will continue pushing for people to keep supporting their small kombucha producers simply by enjoying to drink booch however they typically do, but if I happen upon a kombucha keg stand, I would give a confident "Hell Yeah" with a fist pump.
Signing off,
Noah (the unapologetic booch in a stemmed glass guy)
